Prostate treatment

prostate surgery Years of medical research has shown that most men with prostate disease with die with it and not from it. However, some men will need prostate Surgery or other prostate treatment.

You may or may not have signs of prostate trouble (such as increased urination at night, erectile dysfunction or decreased urine stream). If so, it is important to be examined by your doctor or health care professional. Either way, your doctor may still want to discuss the risks and benefits of testing for prostate cancer. Testing includes digital rectal exam, a blood test called prostate specific antigen (PSA), and prostate biopsy, if needed.

Prostate treatment varies depending on the problem. Prostate enlargement, or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can squeeze in on the urethra, causing urinary symptoms. Prostate treatment for BPH includes prescription or alternative medicines, but talk to your doctor or health care professional before taking alternative medicines. Prostate Surgery might be recommended if medications are ineffective.

Cancer is usually considered if the PSA is greater that 4, and/or the prostate feels abnormal on rectal exam. Your doctor will likely refer you to a urologist for more testing, and prostate cancer treatment if needed. The prostate cancer treatment chosen would depend on the extent of the cancer and your individual needs. Radical prostatectomy is a prostate Surgery that removes the whole prostate. Other types of prostate cancer treatment includes beam radiation, chemotherapy, and oral medications. Some men with very slow growing cancer will do OK with regular check ups.
