A warning to those who want to cut corners

Daniel was a manager at the local super market. While some found him erratic at times, he always came across as a man of good moral standing. He was a stickler for risk assessment. He always keenly observed health and safety and always prattled on about protecting customer safety at all costs. What Daniel did not expect was that he himself would endanger everyone in the building. Succumbing to company pressure, Daniel installed some cheap smoke detectors to save on the budget. The irony is that he was always so specific about where to put the ‘wet floor’ signs. In the end some faulty wiring started a fire, but the smoke detectors did not go off. Thirty people were trapped in that building. As I said though, Daniel was a man of good moral standing. He managed to lead the customers and staff out of the building but he went back in to check that no one had been left inside. He had managed to get everyone out before the end. Daniel will be missed.
