Common Types Of Identity Theft
In the USA, the most commonly witnessed types of identity theft are the theft of an individual’s social security number and State ID theft. Both of these can be used against victims fairly readily – often without their knowledge. The theft often occurs if the victim has lost either their social security card or their ID card – or, of course, if either of these have been stolen. An identity fraudster can use this information to assume the victim’s identity. If this is done successfully they are likely to engage in a number of criminal activities – applying for loans, credit cards – possibly even employment using the fraudulently obtained information.
